Connecticut has done a consumer awareness campaign in 2017 to increase in the quantity and quality of recycled plastic film packaging, such as bags and wraps, in the greater Hartford area. Their goal is diverting 60 percent of our waste from disposal by 2024.

Plastic Packaging Alternative Derived from Crab Shells and Trees

Researchers from Georgia Institute of Technology have created a material derived from crab shells and tree fibers that has the potential to replace the flexible plastic packaging used to keep food fresh.
Calculations carried out by RIVM indicate that the total intake of Bisphenol A (BPA) via food in the Netherlands is very limited. Even under the most unfavorable circumstances, the exposure would still be a factor of 30 times less than the current tolerable daily intake (TDI).
